Life Changing Books to Quell Anxiety

I am a reader.  As you can see below, I’ve read a lot over the years and have many favorites.  I typically read somewhere between three to five books per month and the topics vary greatly.  Only recently have I begun writing a lot.  This is mainly to keep up with this blog and share my thoughts on anxiety and a healthy lifestyle with others.  With that said, I’ve read a great deal about writing, anxiety, health, supplements, and yoga to name a few subjects.  From reading, I hope to become a better writer so that I can express my thoughts easily on the blog. The below are some of the books that have drastically helped my own anxiety-laden journey.

Books to help with anxiety:

A Mind of Your Own by Kelly Brogan, MD-This is a must-read and good place to begin. Dr. Brogan links gut and immune health directly to mental health.

The Anxiety Toolkit by Alice Boyes

Help and Hope for Your Nerves by Claire Weekes-This book helped me on many occasions when my anxiety was through the roof and I couldn’t see a positive light in sight. This may not be for everyone, but it’s a short, easy and good read.

Under Pressure by Lisa Damour-This is a newer book written mainly about girls and the anxiety epidemic. I wish everyone, girls, parents of girls, teachers, and boys could read this.

Not Just Me by Lisa Jakub

Letting Go by David Hawkins-This book basically changed my life. It’s not exactly about anxiety, but it certainly gets at the root of it. This is a must-read!

The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem by Nathaniel Branden

Yoga and Meditation Books:

Namaslay by Candace Moore-this yogi entrepreneur talks through her battle with an extreme medical condition and how yoga enriches her life

Richard Hittleman’s Yoga 28 Day Exercise Plan-this is an older yoga book, but there are tons of pictures and it’s a great place for beginners and advanced yogis alike

One-Minute Mindfulness by Donald Altman

The Wisdom of Yoga by Stephen Cope

Yogalosophy by Mandy Ingber

The Yoga Sutras of Patañjali by Edwin Bryant-this is not an easy (or quick) read, but is essential in your path and discovery of yoga

The Miracle of Mindfulness by Thich Nhat Hanh

Return to Life by Joseph Pilates-while this is not technically yoga, it’s pilates, I loved this book as it’s a thorough overview of what pilates is.  There are several exercises from this book that really are universal and some crossover with your yoga practice.

In Defense of Food by Michael Pollen

The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollen

Forks Over Knives by Gene Stone – this is also a good documentary if you’d rather watch it.

Lovingkindness by Sharon Salzberg

Food and Beauty:

Just the Essentials by Adina Grigore – This book changed my (skin) life for good and now i make all of my own natural skin cleansing products from scratch. It’s worth the read even if you don’t have the time or if you don’t care to make your own products. We forget that our skin is our largest organ and is susceptible to intake of toxins.

Skin Cleanse by Adina Grigore – similar to the book above, this has been essential in my healthcare and skin routines. I no longer worry about my skin after many many long years of skin problems.

Eat Pretty by Jolene Hart

Chloe’s Kitchen by Chloe Coscarelli

Naturally Thin by Bethenny Frankel

Self Help and Inspiration

The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod

Ask and It Is Given by Jerry Hicks

The Awakened Family by Shelali Tsabary-I could also list this book under the “anxiety books” as well as it’s incredibly good for parents who have anxiety.

Atomic Habits by James Clear

The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale-This is a book I read, reread, and read again throughout the years as it is the one book that will always keep me positive and in a hopeful mood.

Before Happiness by Shawn Achor

Parenting from the Inside Out by Daniel Siegel-This book was a life-changer for me as a parent. Even though it’s targeted towards parents, it’s a great book to discover how and where your underlying issues came from when you were a child. This book completely changed me!

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle
